You guys probably know by the now that I get excited by the littlest things. So when my cousin and I were randomly walking around New York you could imagine how thrilled I was to see The New York Palace right in front of me. It's the hotel which is supposedly home to Chuck Bass and the Van Der Woodsens.
Now I regret NOT going on the Gossip Girl tour!!! Next time....maybe in September?

If you don't know her, Dannielle hails from Australia, where she designs fabric based gifts and strives to create a handmade-friendly world through handmade gifts. Beyond that, she blogs on her website, DannielleCresp.com, and has written an e-book called Living Within Your Means. I'm over the moon that Dannielle's taken time out to share tips on how to live a more mindful life with us today.
Have you thought about "living within your means" and what it means to you? To me, it's about thinking before spending, and making sure I buy something that I will really love. By thinking about what I spend my hard-earned dollars on, I can enjoy the purchase much more. It also means no credit cards and only having debt that can't be avoided, like student loans and mortgages. That has let me put on the handbrake of overspending and ending up with purchases I'm luke-warm about.
So, how do we do that? Here are five steps to a more mindful life that you can start today:
Budget for 'fun money' - If you like to buy yourself treats and new things, mindful living doesn't mean that you have to give them up; you just need to work out what you really have to spend and what you can buy within that budget.
Save a little every payday - If you saved just 10% of your take home pay and put it in a savings account you'd be amazed how quickly it can grow into something significant.
Take note how much you spend on the tiny purchases - It's the three coffees at the cafe everyday and the bought lunches that really catch up with you. Do yourself a favor and count up what you spend in a week on impulse purchases, it can really open your eyes.
Think before you buy - If you're out shopping and you're not sure if you really need or want what you are considering buying, leave the shop. Go have a coffee or cold drink, sit and think about it, and only go back if it is something you really want.
Dream big - Think about one of your ultimate financial goals, be it a nicely furnished house, a grand family holiday or a big trip overseas. If you make your dreams a priority and aim towards them you can focus your spending on giving you the life you really want.
Don't be too hard on yourself if it isn't easy to follow these steps right away or if you fall off the wagon. Dust yourself off, remember your goals for a happy, mindful life and just keep going. Life is too short to be angry at ourselves and to be stuck in a debt of things we never really wanted in the first place.

I've been thinking about this idea of a thriving artist since last night. I love the idea that it's in my control to determine how I perceive myself, my work, and my fellow artists. I love the idea that "starve" and "artist" aren't mutually exclusive. But I especially love the positive message.
When I jumped in and started my business, I was in a dark place emotionally. I was suffocating and desperate to find joy again, and I didn't recognize my life or myself in the mirror. After a rough year last year, I was pretty close to being back in that dark place. I questioned what I was doing constantly. I could feel the negativity leaking out of me.
And then I got a wake up call. Several, actually, and I realized I was going through the motions. I realized I wasn't actively engaged in what I was doing. I had stopped looking for inspiration, for motivation, because I had started believing that I really was going to starve if I kept on my current path. I had goals, but wasn't doing anything to meet them, and I hated that. I had to reengage. I had to make a conscious choice to thrive, not starve. I forgot my motto: It's my life, if I don't like it, I can change it. Only this time, I didn't change my life, I changed the way I was thinking, and it feels like I've got a new pair of eyes. It feels wonderful, like I'm hitting my stride and coming into who I want to be.
Marissa encouraged her readers to find a way to thrive as an artist. Tara encouraged her readers to declare themselves as thriving, not starving. Wendy said don't let limitations stop you, and I'm saying if you don't like it, change it. Engage in the world around you, both offline and online. Find something you love and run with it. And, maybe most importantly, don't give up.
My favorite line from Marissa: "I will close by saying that I for one chose a career as an artist expecting to THRIVE."
