Fall 2010. PART XVI.

I can't believe this is my 16th blog entry on the Fall 2010 shows! I had to kick it off with John Galliano as it has to be one of the most beautiful collections, from head to toe. It was pure eye candy and I adored the nomadic, gypsy-esque princess theme...but I'm certain there were several other mini themes slithering its way through the whole collection anyway!

There was a similar 'global'' concept within Jean Paul Gaultier's collection, but because of his quirky interpretation of ideas, I think I preferred his collection the most. There were sporty elements that looked very new and I was delighted to see his iconic cone bra incorporated into a chinoiserie dress!

Color Story :: Flower Fields

These gorgeous photos are courtesy of Christie over at The Blooming Wildflowers Project. Christie is a jewelry designer, a blogger, a photographer, and an MFA student. She recently took a vacation to California (I'm jealous) with her husband, and has been sharing the photos she took over on her blog. I was really taken with these flower fields on her Day 1 post, and Christie's allowed me to use them as this week's Color Story inspiration (thanks Christie!). I never get tired of flowers.

I'm still working out where I want to go with the Color Stories, but I've got a few ideas. In the mean time, this is probably a good time to mention that a couple weeks ago, I signed on to write for Handmade Spark.

Handmade Spark delivers useful and innovative information to handmade buyers and sellers. Our key goal is to introduce buyers and sellers to each other.  Additionally, we aim to inform people about the latest handmade trends, showcase the people and work that make up the handmade community, and educate sellers about promoting and buyers about finding great handmade goods all across the Internet.

I bet you're really surprised to see me use this color, huh?

The posts I've done so far are called Color Spark Palettes, where I choose one color then browse Etsy to find six items with that color to show off. I have fun doing it, though I honestly don't know how they fit in; most of the other articles are tips and helpful how-tos, so I'm not sure how long I'll continue with those palettes. I'll be sharing some of my Tip Shares with Handmade Spark, so keep an eye out. If you'd like to stop by and say hi, that'd be great, too. :)

And before I wish you a merry weekend, I also want to let everyone know that my shop will be closed from Tuesday, April 6th to Tuesday, April 13th so I can spend some time with my family. When it reopens, I'll have brand new pieces to share!

Clogs.

I didn't think I would ever want to buy clogs but after seeing a pair in the cutest and not an obvious clog-like design, I finally succumbed! The reason why I didn't want such an obvious design, was simply because I knew I'd get bored of it. At least if it was a clog-sandal hybrid, I would still like them for a longer time. These are from Topshop which they call 'OLLIE' and cost a reasonable £40/$58. There are so many styles out there with a majority being extremely impractical because of the heel height, but Topshop were actually the only High Street brand that offered mid-heeled styles, so thank you!So, let's talk about comfortability- because these have none. The heel height and front platform puts your feet at such a perfect angle that these could potentially have been the most comfortable pair of heeled sandals....However, because the entire sole is made out of wood, there is no flexibility whatsoever and don't even think about walking on cobbled pavements as it becomes a true test of balance and pain! The front strap really started digging into my foot, even though I wore them with socks, so I will never be able to wear them without...which is fine as I find them quite sweet when styled with socks. On a positive note, I still decided to keep them and after wearing them a second time with thicker socks, it wasn't so bad after all...but I will still need to keep away from cobbled pavements! I then wondered how women have been wearing the 4" high versions that don't even have a sling back... but I assume that they are keeping it within their work environment as I have actually never seen someone wear them outside!...and from experience, walking on carpet is definitely easier!

Judgment Day

La Mer Noire by Sheena Gloria

Two weeks ago, my sister, Amina and I were invited to judge the projects of SoFA's Fashion Trend class. The project was to create a trend forecast for ARANAZ. While we were impressed by everyone's pieces. We decided to pick the winning work, Le Mer Noire by Sheena Gloria. Inspired by the sea, her trend forecast was new, sophisticated and forward. Her presentation was clear and direct. We feel that she managed to capture our brand while giving it a fresh look!
