Wedding Cupcakes Pre-Trial

The lovely Miss Amanda from Is This Thing On? will be making the cupcakes for our wedding and kindly stopped by on Christmas Eve Eve to give us a tasting of some of the flavors we'd proposed. And seriously? Did you get a look at that perfect frosting job? Awesome.

We're getting married in the fall, so we wanted to get fall flavors that are nostalgic, seasonal and unique and most of all, reflective of us. Sean's favorite dessert of all time is apple pie and I love anything with Bailey's, so here's where we landed, left to right:

• Apple cupcakes with homemade vanilla buttercream icing (which will have a caramel drizzle on the day of the wedding).


• Pumpkin swirl cupcakes


• Chocolate Guiness cupcakes with Baileys icing

We had a ceremonial tasting and here were our thoughts ("our" including me, Ashleigh, Amanda, Sean and his family):

• Apple was moist perfection. Seriously. The vanilla buttercream was perfect and I can't wait to try it with caramel drizzle.


• Pumpkin spice was okay. Sean and his dad loved it; Amanda was on the fence; I thought it was a little more like a muffin than a cupcake.


• Guiness with Baileys was a revelation. Seriously. The Guiness really only added a layer of flavor to the chocolate and the Baileys was, as always, fabulous. I've had so much Irish Cream lately that I'm almost tired of it ... nah.

We're still open to creative cupcake ideas. I suggested maybe a champagne cupcake; do you have any ideas?

Paper Wreath Completed!

I finished the wreath last night once I'd replenished my hot glue stick supply. All I had to do was add some extra ruffles and fill in some of the holes. I have to say, it does look pretty fabulous.

We're going to do the rest of our decorating tomorrow night, and I'm very excited. I've been feeling so left out in the neighborhood!

Unfortunately, we aren't getting a real tree this year like we did last year. We are going to be out of town almost every weekend of the holidays, plus our neighborhood doesn't provide any recycling services and the city won't pick it up. I'm sad to say we might not have a real tree until we live in a real house...that's motivation to save right there!

I'm in need of a new purse. The one I currently have has been my faithful companion since our introduction at DSW's Christmas 2008 sale. I love her. But we've simply been together too long. I'd love for my new purse to be unisex. You know, capable of working with black OR brown. Enter the most lovely eggplant purple-ish masterpiece. I will name her Lily (it really just popped in my head). Longchamp calls the color "billberry". She's classic, but fun, and would go with all of my black AND brown clothes. Perfection. Except for the price tag. We'll have to work on that one.

I've only spotted her once in real life. But I know she hangs out here and here. Let me know if you find her. Specifically if she's on sale.
