Well, my lovely readers, have I got a holiday treat for you! The fine folks at Cookware contacted me about doing a giveaway to my readers.
I've never done a giveaway before, but I figured we could try it out and it might be nice to scoop up something you might not have received for Christmas. Here's the deal:
The Prize: You can choose ANYTHING on the site up to $30 as your prize, including the mixing bowls from Paula Deen Cookware shown above. The site has plenty of kitchen necessities under $30, from knife sets to tea kettles to cookbooks.
The Rules: You have one week to leave a comment on this post telling me your cooking- or eating-related New Year's resolution. My personal resolution is to cook a little healthier in preparation for my wedding, but I'd love to hear yours.
Over the weekend, I'll review the resolutions and announce the winner on Monday. Be clever and creative! At that point, I will ask the winner to e-mail me and we'll negotiate the particulars of getting your prize to your doorstep.
Fine print: Unfortunately, the contest is open only to my readers in the U.S. and Canada (sorry faithful fans in Kazakhstan!). Also, I think it's important for you to know I am receiving nothing from Cookware.com. Think of me as a conduit to your happier cooking experiences!
I'll be linking back to this post throughout the weekend for easy commenting. Please only leave one comment and I can't wait to read your resolutions!

This is my Westie, Duffie, and she's my princess. I've been her proud Mama since April 2007. When's her birthday, you ask? Valentine's Day of course! She's such a looker, and I'm pretty sure she knows it.
I swear there's a point to this...I entered her in a Twitter contest! There's an amazing dog artist, aptly named Dog Arteest that's hosting a monthly contest to win a free portrait of your pup. Aimee is so talented- her paintings are out of control. I WANT ONE SO BAD. What's better? She does them in 140. The winner is picked by Aimee, so please wish us luck!
Along with monthly contests, Aimee does commission work too. These paintings are more labor intensive, taking up to 30 hours! Here's some images from her recent commissions. Check out Aimee's site for more of her work.
Are you kidding me? How awesome is that Schnauzer?!?
Oh you guys, it was good to be baking again! I hadn't baked in months and going to a Fourth of July party offered the perfect excuse to flex my baking muscle again. I wanted something that seemed super American and incorporated at least two of the three magic America colors: red, white and blue. I landed on Martha Stewart's Strawberry Shortcake Cookies.
First things first, I diced two cups of strawberries.
Put the strawberries in a bowl, then add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Need something to do with the rest of those lemons? I spent ten minutes with my elbows resting on them; they're great exfoliators.
Then I added sugar to the strawberries and let them sit while I mixed up the flour mish mash.
I whisked together flour, baking soda, 7 tablespoons of sugar (7!!) and salt.
Then cut up six tablespoons of cold unsalted butter.
And added the butter with a pastry cutter.
Here's the magic sauce: heavy cream. Don't go...um...heavy with it, though.
The recipe calls for 2/3 cup of cream. You stir it in and a dough starts to form. I thought I knew better than Martha, though, and I added a little more. I think that was a mistake.
Once I was satisfied with the dough, I added the strawberries, which added more moisture.
Just to take it to the next level, I added some white chocolate chips.
Then I tried to use my ice cream scoop to scoop up perfect cookie-sized rounds of dough. This never works for me, so I gave up and used my hands.
I baked at 375 for 24 minutes and they probably could have cooked another 3 minutes, but they were delicious. I will say they were a bit too moist, so I'd go less heavy on the heavy cream. They were the perfect Fourth of July treat, however; totally fresh and sweet and tart and sugary all at the same time. Best of all? It didn't involve an electric mixer, so anyone could make these!
If you follow me on twitter (MissSE06), you know that I've been a little sick lately. Just what I needed for my first week of work- what a bummer! Mr. SE and I are continuing our house hunt today, so I'm just going to do a quick post. Here's some things that have been tickling my fancy over the weekend. Love this use of Wonderful Grafitti or Uppercase Living for a shower. This vase could also be incorpoated for a wedding ceremony/reception, and use after the wedding in your newlywed home. Inexpensive, but defintely makes an impact.{jonathon campbell photography}
This veil from David's Bridal is exactly what I'm looking for. Simple and timeless. The length is perfect. I'm planning on designing mine online (for less than $50 thankyouverymuch), but this is definitely an inspiration picture.
Love this bar setup from Cedarwood. For those of you who I haven't met in person, Cedarwood is where we'll be having our reception. I'll be sure to do a post on it sometime soon. Mr. SE and I love their covered pavillion and grounds. This bar is incredibly inviting, and I love all the pretty cup arrangements. Look at the Cedarwood blog for more eye candy.
This Alvina Valenta dress makes my heart melt. I haven't tried on dresses yet- I'm waiting until I can do it with my Mom and Dad. I love how the dress is so light and airy, but it has the lace detail on the train. On August days like today, I'm questioning whether I should debut the "bridal bikinni" at our reception. I can't imagine wearing a wedding dress this time of year! Should I assign a bridesmaid to hold a fan under me at all times? I think so.
What's currently inspiring you? Please share a link to something that is really driving your planning right now.
I think J.Crew's wedding gowns just get better and better. They're designing chicer, lovelier gowns than half of the wedding designers out there. All my engaged friends, I beg of you to drop $2,400 on the Starburst gown up top.
How dreamy is that tulle overlay? This is lovely Lorna, and she costs $3,000.

Title:Urban Cowboy Wedding Trailer
by http://www.VanessaMcKellar.com
What a blast this wedding was! The events took place in Fort Worth, with the reception downtown on the rooftop of the Reata. I loved the theme of the wedding, sort of cowboy meets preppy. The adorable dresses were from J Crew, and they had pockets in them, even the bride's. Brooke looked totally classic and timeless. Her dress and accessories and hairdo were clean and simple, and it all made a great backdrop for her striking beauty. For the reception, everyone changed into cowboy boots and the girls donned these super cute chunky necklaces.
I enjoyed filming this wedding partly because Brooke is one of those brides that just "gets" video. She was so excited to have me there documenting everything, and that only made me more excited. And Matt, he's such a softie. It seemed like every time I looked at him he had tears in his eyes. What a sweetie!
Another thing I liked about this wedding was the band. They didn't have just any wedding band, they had a personal concert by cult favorite Max Stalling, a great musician who also happens to be their family friend. Max has great charisma and sweetness, and no cheese whatsoever. People were singing along to his songs all night and having a grand old time, despite the rain that tried to put a damper on things.
