Board #489: A Summer Picnic

Board #489: A Summer Picnic

Another relaxed summer wedding inspiration board for you, with a touch of red, white and blue to continue this week's color motif. And what's more summery and Fourth-of-July than a picnic? Print save-the-dates or invites on brown paper lunch bags to give guests the idea of what's to come. Set up a swing and some lawn games, and maybe decorate with some paper lanterns hung in the trees. And again, if this idea seems too informal for a wedding, it would be perfect for a welcome party or rehearsal picnic luncheon.

Mood: breezy summer picnic
Palette: brown, green, red, pale blue

Kate Spade Twirl

por | | 0 comments

Kate Spade TwirlI've been needing a new day-to-day fragrance for a while now. I have a couple of very heady evening-only perfumes, one of which is Givenchy's L'Interdit that my dearly departed grandmother gave me when I turned 17. I'm preserving those last few drops, so I like to have a lighter, easy-to-wear fragrance for daily life. I was addicted to Lavanila's Vanilla Grapefruit, but I used it all up a few months ago, so I think it's time to try something new.

The ad for Kate Spade's new perfume, Twirl, caught my eye in my Vogue last night and I gave it a big, hearty whiff. Hard to tell from a magazine loaded with 15 other perfume samples, but it smelled very me. I like to test-drive perfumes before committing too much, so I'm thinking I might get an $18 rollerball. I'll let you know how it goes!

Tim Gunn, of Project Runway fame, is working with Kate Spade to promote their Spring line and made a stop at their Northpark Center store in Dallas on April 29, 2009. He gave a style show using outfits that "everyone has in their closet" like jeans and a white T-shirt and a little black dress to illustrate his style points - that it's all about the accessories. He showed off the Kate Spade collection which is varied, bright and fun! See Tim's tips here for Spring style.

Help Haiti

por | | 0 comments

Hi All!
Just stopping by to say this week has been crazy busy, full of meetings and interviews and dinners and movie nights, but more importantly, it has been catastrophic for the people of Haiti.

$10 is a movie ticket, half a tank of gas, a lunch at Panera or a drink at a bar for most of us.
$10 could be first aid supplies, food, clean water and a multitude of other things in Haiti.

Text "Haiti" to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross International. This is the advice of the White House and is confirmed to be a good steward of donations by Snopes.com.

Do it. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The infrastructure is so collapsed at the moment that surgeries are impossible, flights in and out are nearly impossible and basic communication has been difficult. We are so fortunate and we can share.

Under the Tuscan Sun

Under the Tuscan Sun

Ariella Chezar and Meg Smith are such a talented pair, and it's so much fun to have them back today with another gorgeous and inspiring shoot, this one at two beautiful Napa Valley wineries. Don't all of these rustic details make you want to take a trip to the Italian countryside?

Purple skirts from Anthropologie. Gold tops made by Ariella Chezar.

The bridesmaid bouquets and centerpieces include dahlias, chocolate cosmos, angelica gigas, and of course, sunflowers.

Young purple artichokes are incorporated into both the menu and the decor.

The menus, place cards, and favor tags were customized with rubber stamps.

Splits of champagne are wrapped in little burlap sacks from Shibata, and finished with eggplant purple ribbon and a scallop-edged tag. The bubbly favors are displayed on a wine barrel.

A big thank you again to Ariella Chezar for stopping by Snippet & Ink and sharing her beautiful design and styling with us, and to Meg Smith for sharing these incredible photographs. They'll be back again next week with another inspiring shoot!

Board #453: Tuxedo & Mint

Board #453: Tuxedo & Mint

This inspiration board didn't start out with an accent color, but there is the slightest hint of mint green on the walls of Lisa Lefkowitz's photograph, and that inspired the rest of these image choices. I imagine a chic cocktail party, or (yet again) a champagne and dessert reception. Though it may take place in a gorgeous mansion, and though the men may be in black tie attire, formality is no reason to exclude whimsical touches, such as calligraphy cootie catchers or a sweet snack of hot beignets. Though they are certainly not major elements in any wedding, they're a fun touch if you feel up to executing them.

Mood: polished, sweet
Palette: tuxedo black, crisp white, a touch of mint green
