I'd like to interrupt the scheduled blog break for two important announcements...
NumeroUno: I cleared out the Bath & Body Works sale last weekend. I literally robbed the Mt. Juliet store. If you wanted any black amethyst or black raspberry vanilla, sorry it's gone. And currently living in my bathroom. I cannot put into words how much I love their buy 3 get 3 free sales. My bathroom is like a WWII bunker, only the Bath & Body Works version. Their new triple moisture body cream is currently my favorite thing. It will change your life. And if not your life, it'll definitely liven up that nasty fall/winter skin.
{hello lover}
Numero Dos: I got to wear jeans to work today, since we'll be moving around a lot in preparation for reunion. And guess what? Someone fit into their old jeans today!!! And that someone was me. Success!
Mr. SE and I love to cook together. We've done several classes at the Viking School, and we're doing another one this spring (more on that later). While registering at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, we paid special attention to the cookwear that we chose. The debate became heated. I was rooting for the non-stick team, and Mr. SE for stainless. We ended up registering for a little bit of both, but I could tell Mr. SE was feeling a little bit sad. So for Christmas, I decided to buy him the pan of his dreams. The 11" stainless pan from Viking. You should've seen his face light up when he opened it!
Also, it's no secret this man loves some blu-ray! He also loves Dexter, and is still quite upset about the season finale that aired earlier this month. I have a weak stomach, and I don't enjoy CSI-type shows, so he was really surprised when he opened Season 1 and 2 of Dexter.
Of course, I also threw in the obligatory boxers, along with two button down shirts from BR. I think Mr. SE was very pleased with his Christmas gifts this year!
Merry Christmas From Our White House Florist Laura Dowling (Recipe Included!) Holiday wreaths
Apple and berry wreath What you'll need
1 12 inch straw wreath form Stem wire Floral wire Floral picks (4 inches) 35 small red delicious apples 1 bunch of red holly berries 1 bunch of red rose hips Trailing English ivy
Directions
Pierce apples through the center with the stem wire. Working from side to side on the front of the wreath, wrap wired apples around the form, twisting tightly in back to securely fasten each piece of fruit. Cover the entire wreath form with apples. Cut small bunches of berries and rose hips (about 2 3 inches in length). Wire the berries and rose hips to floral picks. Add the bunches to the wreath, interspersing the berries among the apples. Wrap trailing ivy in and around the wreath as a finishing touc http://www.lauradowling.com/
Is it ever a good sign when your cooking adventures start like this? Somehow these eggs got completely stuck inside the crate and I managed to break that one just trying to pull it out. What's that about, people? So weird.
The process to make the french toast was a little haphazard. I have a very bad habit of not reading ALL the instructions, so I mixed up my egg wash only to notice I was supposed to add orange zest (pshaw!) and some other junk. I was supposed to use an egg white, but I accidentally used the whole egg. Ultimately, I ended up using two eggs, a little milk, vanilla extract and the eensiest bit of orange juice.
Meanwhile, Sean got to work making 4 sandwiches of honey wheat bread and raspberry jam.
On the other side of the kitchen, I was busy crushing bran flakes into crumbs.
Leaning tower of sammiches!
I then dipped the sandwiches in the egg wash, then in a pile of the bran crumbs and fried in butter and vegetable oil.
Finally, I pulled out the confectioner's sugar and dusted the top of the sandwiches, which is really fun.
The crunchy bran sandwiches were great, and somewhat healthy-ish (or so said the Food Network). The raspberry jam adds enough sweetness that syrup isn't needed, but Sean still poured it on. I'm always looking for new breakfast options I actually like, so this will be a good addition to the repertoire!

Title:Raisin Bran Crunch
Kui: You know what I love about Raisin Bran Crunch? (C) All the delicious raisins!
Caroline: I like the crunchy flakes on the...granola clusters. You know? Its why it says crunch on there.
Kui: Yeah, but, Raisins are before crunch on the box, even BRAN made it before crunch!
Caroline: Yeah, but look how big the word "Crunch" is, it just dominates the box!
Fairie: I like the box because in the middle of the word Kelloggs (C) is "ello!" Like a British greeting. "Ello, Governor!"

Title:Cereal Rap
My pink and fuzzy ode to breakfast cereals. Thanks to Rebecca http://www.youtube.com/user/rebeccawrite for suggesting in the channel comments that I do a song about Cheerios - it was the inspiration! =:0)
-----------
LYRICS:
I wake up in the morning and I'm feeling kinda lazy
My eyes barely open and my head is pretty hazy
My tummy starts to grumble as the hunger takes its toll
Get outta my way I need to get a bowl!
Which friend is gonna join me? I like to make a habit
Of starting my day eating breakfast with a rabbit
trix are for kids and I like em a bunch
I also like kickin it with capn' crunch.
But that's life. What's life? It's a cereal.
Life Cereal - Hey mikey, he likes it!
1..2..3..
***
A is for Apple, J is for Jacks
G I M the dude with the cereal raps
I don't like it soggy it's my crunchy sweet addiction
Some ice cold milk is the perfect contradiction
It doesn't really matter if they're flakes or they're squares
As long as they taste good I don't really care.
Every day I find myself exactly in the mood
for something kid tested and mother approved
***
It's a modern stone age family! They kinda look like rebels
Running around with stone bowls and fruity pebbles.
Next thing you know there's dino, barney, fred
Yabba dabba do ya do ya do ya know instead
I'm looking for something that's magically delicious
I dont' even mind if I dirty more dishes
Gonna tempt your tummy with the taste of nuts and honey
What about raisin bran that's always nice and sunny
With two scoops of raisins I really wanna bite
I could eat those two scoops every day and night.
When it comes to cereal I'm kind of big talker
Especially cookie crisp - I'm an obsessive stalker
A bunch of little cookies that I can't seem to resist
I always seem to add them to my grocery list
But lets not forget about cinnamon toast toast toast crunch crunch
Crunch berries and frankenberry and boo berry and you berry
And me berry we're two berries that are very very
Cheery cheery cheerio o o oh's
But That's Life - What's Life? Its a cereal.
Life cereal. Hey Mikey.

Look at all the boxes in the aisle.
Every character has got a cardboard smile.
Do I go for nutrition or for the free prizes?
Look at all the different colored shapes and sizes.
I'm coo coo for cocoa puffs there's really no denying
The sugar in frosted flakes really gets me flying
That breakfast of champions costs a lot of money
And so do the bunches of oats with honey
Boxes getting smaller and the prices hit the top
It's enough to make your wallet snap crackle and pop
Flakes, bran, berries smacks crispies and bunches
I'd rather eat breakfast any day than boring lunches
It doesn't really matter if they're flakes or they're squares
As long as they taste good I don't really care.
