Allow me to introduce you to the Calvin Klein "Remini". All of my work pumps are CK "Dolly", and they're so comfortable. I am 100% obsessed with this shoe. My love (Zappos) carries it in some strange color varieties, as does Macy's. But what I'm lusting over is this delicious gunmetal color. It's such a statement shoe, but this color makes it more of a neutral piece. So if you find this shoe, in gunmetal, in a size 7: let me know. I will probably knock you over to get to it. I apologize in advance.
The beginning of a season is one of my favorite things - it always feels as though that season is the one I love most of all. Right now (of course) it's summer. I love the sunshine and how nice it is to be outside all day long. I love that cherries and berries are actually affordable and delicious. That dinner is always as simple as it gets, and rarely requires cooking that doesn't happen on a grill. And that it's light out until bedtime. So it's really no surprise that today's inspiration board is easy going and totally simple. Iced tea and honey jars, sun dresses and a picnic basket. Sounds like a delightful way to spend the day, whether or not you're getting married in the summer months.

But lo and behold, my brown sugar was a brick. Seriously, I could break windows with that brown sugar. I could build homes with that sugar. It was ridiculous.
I googled all the tricks for softening brown sugar and found this one to work (sort of; the sugar still clumped like crazy):
1. Place sugar (still in bag) in the microwave alongside a cup of water.
2. Heat for 3 minutes.
Sugar should be softer after that.
The sugar hardens because of lost moisture; anyone have a storage tip for brown sugar to avoid this?
Anyways, I added the sugar to a stick of butter and granulated sugar. Then I beat it until it got "fluffy." I put fluffy in quote marks because if anything, the clumpy brown sugar just got clumpier until it looked like I was making a breakfast cereal. But whatever; you know me, I just steamroll ahead.
Added the vanilla and eggs, then beat it into oblivion.
Oooh pretty.
I slowly added the flour/baking soda mixture.
Which eventually turns the batter into this thick mass.
I folded the white and chocolate chips into the batter, dropped it in clumps on my cookie sheets and voila:
COOKIES!
About these cookies: They were good, they tasted like cookies, they looked like cookies. But they were way cakier than they should have been; I'm figuring this has something to do with the butter temperature (it got very soft while I was wrestling with the brown sugar brick) and maybe the brown sugar?
I'm starting to realize I might have to actually learn what different ingredients do to achieve different consistencies. LOL. I'm sure you all just read that and said, "ABOUT TIME!"

After the ceremony, our guests toured the Mariners Museum for an hour while we headed outside the museum to take pictures. My photographer, Ryan Burke, and I had plotted out what pictures we hoped to get two nights before the wedding. I can't recommend this enough; we wrote down all the combinations of family/bridal party we hoped to get, along with what detail shots were crucial. For the editing style, we talked about capturing a dreamy quality without making it over-Photoshopped. Ryan aimed to get an "Amelie" look to the pictures, which was my goal as well.
I asked my bridesmaids to choose their own red dresses from wherever they wanted, for however much they wanted to pay. The only real requirements I had were that their dresses be wedding-appropriate, knee-length and that I have approval before they commit to something. That was to ensure we were all on the same page, and also that one person didn't get a radically different dress.
Many people were concerned that this wouldn't be possible with the color red, which has so many variances, but I think it turned out great! My girls bought their dresses at Nordstrom, David's Bridal and Ross. I asked them to wear gold shoes, as well, which I think are a closet staple.
I wanted my bridesmaids to be comfortable and pretty, but most importantly, I wanted them to look like themselves. I hoped they would be able to express their style while looking somewhat unified, and I wanted them to look gorgeous and chic. I didn't want my friends to look like a sad, unhappy Army in unflattering dresses in unflattering colors that they have no hope of wearing again.
I ordered heart-shaped balloons off of Amazon, and they arrived on Friday night! I had given up on any hope that they would come in time, but they did, and Miranda had them filled. They were used to guide guests to the venue, then we grabbed a few for pictures.
The boys bought their suits at Men's Wearhouse. They were just asked to buy light gray suits, and I thought they looked very handsome. Sean bought their ties, which had a very subtle diagonal check pattern, from the J.Crew outlet store.
The museum has this fake wooden ship outside, and the boys convinced me to climb up there for pictures. It was totally frightening, trying to climb a ladder up onto the deck, and when I was climbing down, I ended up throwing my shoes down the shaft and having to ask Sean to push the layers of my dress down so it didn't go over my head! It was quite an adventure.
My bridesmaids' beautiful hairsdos! Sarah made each of us sparkly fabric hairpins, like the one you see in Jamie's hair.
I had worried that the hour in between the ceremony and reception wouldn't be enough time for my minions to transition the space to party-ready, but it turned out to be plenty of time to take pictures and transform the space.

Hello lovelies! I can't believe I've forgotten to share this with you for two weeks, but since I don't have a new inspiration board to share with you today, I thought I'd send you over to 100 Layer Cake where I was a guest blogger for a couple of days.
Because I'm a crazy person, this is a very picture-heavy post, so I'm going to keep the words to a minimum. Just know that San Francisco is a beautiful city, with some of the most gorgeous parks and free, public spaces I've ever seen.
You can cross the bridge, which is about a mile and a half, but we just walked halfway out and came back.
The area around the bridge is called the Presidio, and curves along the shoreline. This was a dog beach we passed on our walk.
Close to the Presidio is the Palace of Fine Arts. It's a leftover from an expo at the turn of the century and is the only remaining building that was constructed out of permanent materials. It is breathtakingly gorgeous, and currently under repairs.
On our walk to Dynamo Donut, we traveled through the Latin part of town. I tried to convince Sean to buy a Mexican wrestling mask, but he ignored me.

The outside of 826 Valencia, Dave Eggers' now-national nonprofit devoted to teaching kids how to write. Each branch has a themed storefront to generate funds; this one has a pirate supply store.
